After 30 years in the construction industry, the last 10 years as a new construction Quality Control Manager and specialist in water intrusion problems, I saw countless moisture related defects in the field, especially around the vertical wall penetrations.

Most professionals know the only thing protecting a house from water damage is the Moisture Resistant Barrier (the house wrap/building paper). Only recently have builders begun to realize that even the smallest pinhole in the building paper can lead to water damage.  If you breach this envelope, it has to be flashed-in or moisture will eventually find its way into the structure.

When I developed the idea behind the Quickflash panels, it was already a standard in the industry to flash the doors, windows and vents.  But, at the time, there was no flashing product on the market to seal around the plumbing and electrical penetrations.  For years builders have relied upon caulking or tape to try and seal these vertical penetrations.  Adhesive sealers are unreliable, the seal around the penetration is only as good as the person applying the caulk or tape, and dust/dirt on job sites can cause the seal to fail.
